Mountain Dew is an X-treme brand of sugar water that is bottled by Pepsico Inc. and consumed by skateboarders, bungee jumpers, parasailers, zipliners, and skydivers all over the world. It is considered to be fittingly X-treme for the 12-18 year old and 18-25 year old demographics.
There is also an enduring urban legend that states that Mountain Dew lowers sperm count.
Wait, what?[]
An enduring urban legend states that consumption of Mountain Dew in large quantities can result in low sperm count, testicular shrinkage, a reduction in the size of the penis, or impotence. This is supposedly caused by tartrazine (better known as Yellow 5).
Does tartrazine cause male reproductive harm? Apparently not, as tartrazine has long been deemed safe by the FDA and has been in use since 1916. It's true that the FDA has required since 1979 that food and drugs containing tartrazine list it on it's ingredients label, this was because tartrazine was found to cause allergic reaction to those sensitive to it. If tartrazine could cause male reproductive harm, we would have found out about it by now.
X-treme factor[]
Mountain dew as been found to be X-treme, as much so as a flavored, carbonated sugar water can be. This is largely attributed to it's use of Yellow 5, which gives Mountain Dew it's neon green coloration, and it's general acceptance by those preferring X-treme products and activities.
